What we do
The Brain Possible was created to inspire and empower parents, caregivers, and practitioners who care for children with brain injuries. It is a project of The Who Is Carter Foundation, which was founded by Emily and Matthew Abbott in 2017 in honor of their son. The foundation is dedicated to changing the conversation around childhood brain injury from one of limitation to one of hope.
Carter taught me how to love so deeply that I would do anything for him. Nothing stopped me: not my body’s need for sleep, material things or a personal life—nothing. I loved him just the way he was and just the way he wasn’t. Carter taught me to live in the moment with him everyday.
Treatments for childhood brain injury advance each day. Many effective ones are not yet widely accepted by the medical establishment. Families deserve access to this knowledge. For us, finding it was a long and trying process. Carter inspired us to make this knowledge - and the hope it brings - accessible to all families struggling with childhood brain injury.
We’ve created 29 articles and counting on well-known and rare childhood brain injuries. Read these profiles to learn the fundamentals of your child’s condition as well as suggestions on how to provide emotional, social, intellectual and nutritional support.
